![]() ![]() OGI UPSETS RUTTER, LEGLER OUSTS LESZEK Who Wants to Be a Millionaire $500,000 winner Ogi Ogas eliminated Rutter from the $100,000 winner-take-all tournament. Rutter lost too much ground in the math round of the Elite Eight showdown and could not come from behind in the finale. In the nightcap, former Navy Lt. David Legler---television's all-time top winner until Kevin Olmstead's $2.18 million victory on Millionaire---defeated former Jeopardy! Tournament of Champions king Leszek Pawlowicz. Rutter vs. Ogas: Ogas outanswered Rutter in the opening round 6-for-8 to 5-for-8 but Ogas used two clock-eating passes to fall behind by 18.63 seconds. Rutter, on the air, cited math as his decidedly weak point. It was. In the second round of numbers and logic, Rutter was only 4-for-9 and used two switches and a pass. The intensely-focused Ogas was 4-for-4 and used two switches and two passes but exercised his options quickly. He ended the math showdown with a huge 39-second advantage and went to halftime with a 20.45-second edge.Next weekend: the quarterfinal matches of Ken Jennings vs. Phyllis Harris and Michelle Kitt vs. John Carpenter will fill out the Final Four field. In the Sept. 1 semifinals, Ogas faces Legler with next weekend's winners taking on each other. TVgameshows.net will have post-game analysis of this weekend's quarterfinal competition Sunday night. NOTE: TVgameshows.net's stats are slightly different from the actual Grand Slam show totals. Because the element of a pass is so crucial in costing contestants time, we break out passes as a separate category, rather than counting them as a miss.
