6cStrom, a 12-year-old math whiz, ran the gauntlet three times on Question after additional plateaus were added to allow popular winners to return. No evidence was ever uncovered of any cheating or question controls during Strom's victories. Said one of the producers: "The kid was so brilliant, you didn't have to tell him anything." Later, Strom added $32,000 to his total on The $64,000 Challenge to finish with $224,000. His winnings were paid over three years for tax purposes.
7Von Nardroff is historically listed as the biggest winner from a single show during the 1950s quiz era. However, unclear is whether Von Nardroff was awarded the full amount, after the Congressional testimony revealed contestants being forced to rebate a percentage of winnings to Barry and Enright.
8Part of a $500,000 shared team jackpot. Stopped before a $1 million question on Miss Americas.
8aShared team jackpot with Troy Glenn. However, Louie---who was billed as a Texas attorney on Greed---was disciplined by NBC News (Louie was an associate producer for Dateline NBC) for not getting approval to appear on a rival network's show. Louie later quit NBC when the network tried to ban him from a return appearance on Greed. He and Glenn returned Feb. 4, 2000, when he defeated Glenn in a one-question playoff for a chance at $1 million. Louie missed the $1 million question when he guessed grape, rather than strawberry, as the last of four choices of the most popular Jell-O flavors in sales in 1999.
